ActiveCampaign opens shop in Sydney (and what it means to ANZ businesses)

ActiveCampaign opened an office in Sydney this year, to better server their APAC customers and chase more business in the region.

This isn’t the freshest news, but I thought I’d kick off this new blog highlighting it and articulating what it means.

Sydney is their first international office, and they plan to hire up to 50 staff, which is impressive. Why Australia? Well, I was surprised to learn that Australia is ActiveCampaign’s second-largest market, beating both the UK and Canada. Given the relatively small population here, Australia may well be the country with the highest density of ActiveCampaign users!

ActiveCampaign received $20M in funding towards the end of 2016, so there should still be plenty of money in the kitty for future expansions. ActiveCampaign was established and profitable even before the round of funding.

They are investing heavily in their platform too. I was lucky enough to be interviewed by one of the Product Managers about features that I would find helpful, and while I don’t have any insider info I’m confident that their road map looks exciting.

Consider this too: ActiveCampaign is already a feature-rich platform. They’re building on a solid foundation, so you’ll be able to squeeze even more value from it.

So, why is this move important for local businesses?

Apart from the obvious points – better support and an increased commitment to the market – we can expect ActiveCampaign to start pushing their brand more.

ActiveCampaign isn’t as well known as some of its competitors: MailChimp and Campaign Monitor at the lower end of the market, and the likes Marketo, HubSpot, and Pardot at the higher end.

As they become a more recognised brand, more and more businesses will consider it as part of their platform selection process. Many will realise that they don’t need to spend a small fortune on a big-name brand.

ActiveCampaign founder and chief executive Jason Vande­Boom summarised this nicely on The Australian:

Compared to other marketing platforms, we fill the void ­between basic email marketing solutions and the more up-market and expensive platforms.

Having a solution an SMB can actually afford is what we have focused on, but the reason we are growing is because we give them enterprise-grade functionality that’s easy to use.

A side effect of this expansion, which I am very keen about, is that we’ll see people come together in Meetups, Facebook Groups and, hopefully, ActiveCampaign-sponsored events.
