ActiveCampaign Accounts are here

ActiveCampaign takes an important step in the CRM direction

We love the flexibility and ease-of-use offered by ActiveCampaign’s Deal functionality — it’s one of the more powerful pipeline management systems on the market.

One your Sales efforts become more sophisticated, though, you’ll start noticing the gaps in the offering. You’ve referred to Deals as CRM but realise that it’s not really one. You don’t have the ‘organisation view’ where you can see all related contacts and deals.

Accounts is a big step in that direction and offers exactly that. It replaces Organisations on Plus and above tiers. Let’s take a look:

It’s quite a simple dashboard and Deals associated to an Account are not yet live, which is a key function. Hopefully it will be rolled out soon.

The other key piece is the ability to associate multiple contacts to an Account.

You can leave notes but there is no list of associated tasks — this may appear once Accounts and Deals are connected up. We also imagine that revenue figures will be added too.

Account fields

You’ll find these in the About box and some of them may well be duplicates custom ones that you’ve created in the past. If so, you’ll need to migrate the values over.

Here’s the list of fields that you can access via Lists > Manage Fields > Accounts.

  • Account Name
  • URL
  • Created Date
  • Last Updated
  • Address 1
  • Address 2
  • City
  • State/Province
  • Postal Code
  • Country
  • Phone Number
  • Description
  • Number of Employees
  • Annual Revenue
  • Industry/Vertical

You can edit all but the first four as well as add custom fields.

Please note: you can only update a contact’s Account Name from an automation. No other Account fields are available and perhaps there doesn’t need to be – we’ll be asking that question.

Concluding thoughts

As mentioned, this is an important development. People have been quite vocal requesting it in official and non-official channels.

It lacks sophistication but that will come, no doubt. Think of this as a structural change on which ActiveCampaign will build a more complete CRM.
